We would like to extend an invitation to you to attend our premier educational and artistic opportunity, the 15th Annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival, sponsored by the Boise State University Department of Music. This year's festival will take place on the Boise State University campus in the Student Union Building, Wednesday and Thursday, March 21 and 22, 2012. Our guest artists, clinicians, and adjudicators include the Lynn Seaton Trio, saxophonist Rich Perry among others.
In keeping with the history of the festival we will be presenting artists who demonstrate core jazz traditions on the cutting edge of artistic creativity. We continue to place an emphasis on jazz education for instrumental jazz ensembles; adjudicated performances, jazz clinics and workshops, and the popular student jam sessions. This year, we continue to enhance our offerings for participants with the addition of an optional competitive element. Our judges, selected for their jazz education credentials, will select a winning band from each school classification to perform on the headline concerts.
As always, my colleagues and I look to you for advice and feedback. You can expect to see continued enhancements made to the artistic and educational aspects of the festival. We encourage you to place the dates on your school calendar and plan to attend; this festival belongs to those who participate.
Yours,
Marcus
