WELCOME TO THE 13TH ANNUAL GENE HARRIS JAZZ FESTIVAL
April 2010
The Boise State University Department of Music proudly presents a celebration of the Gene Harris jazz legacy—artistry, education, and the festival that has excited and promoted jazz awareness throughout the Boise valley, the state of Idaho, and the Northwest region.
Every year the festival offers a myriad of jazz experiences for jazz lovers and students including evening headliner concerts, jazz club concerts, educational clinics and workshops, and school jazz ensemble performances.
We place a strong emphasis on presenting world-class jazz artists, performing in diversity of jazz styles; from Mainstream Swing and Bebop, to Funk and Fusion, mixed with the fiery Latin world of the Samba and Salsa Jazz. Just listen to the audio samples on this page and check out the biographical materials of the individual artists that we have scheduled to appear!
All events take place on the Boise State University campus in sophisticated environs such as the Stueckle Sky Center RR Ranch Club, Student Union Building Simplot Grand Ballroom, Lookout Room, and the Special Events Center. These venues offer classy atmospheres suitable for both student and adult listeners--some events offer over-21 amenities in a jazz-club setting. All with FREE campus PARKING.
Jazz Educators and their students will find pertinent information regarding the procedures, format, and registration for the adjudicated performances, clinics, and special student concerts.
Volunteerism makes the festival run effectively and efficiently—note the web site Get Involved tab. Here you'll also note our very important corporate and private donors whose contributions sustain the festival and provide important student jazz scholarships throughout the school year.
Begin your personal contribution today by spreading the word to your friends, neighbors, and colleagues about the three days of diverse, world-class jazz in a variety of venues at Boise State's New U Rising!
"A truly distinguished metropolitan community must have a vibrant jazz scene."
To this end, we dedicate this year's Gene Harris Jazz Festival.
