The Boise State University Department of Music is pleased to present the 18th annual Gene Harris Jazz Festival, Wednesday-Thursday, April 1-2, 2015 in the BSU Student Union Building.

This year's festival is founded upon jazz educational activities, supported by a great lineup of jazz artists, educator-adjudicators, and clinicians.

Our artistic theme is focused on the "big band" including Idaho and Pacific Northwest student big bands, the Boise State Jazz Ensemble, and the Gene Harris Festival SuperBand—comprising jazz all-stars from around the country and featuring our:

 Jazz Master Saxophonist, Composer, and Educator!

  • Performed, recorded, and toured with the Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, John Scofield, John Abercrombie, and many more
  • Recepient of the NEA Masters of Jazz Award, the highest honor given in American Jazz, as well as consistenly in the top 3 for soprano saxophone in the Downbeat Critics poll since 1973
  • Can be heard on over 500 recordings, with over 200 as a leader or co-leader
  • Author of Self Portrait of a Jazz Artist, A Chromatic Approach to Jazz Melody and Harmony, and Developing A Personal Saxophone Sound, all widely used books around the world
  • Jazz Educators Network Legends of Jazz award (2013), All About Jazz Musician of the Year (2011), Grammy nominations (2004, 1998), Jazz Educators Hall of Fame (2000)

11:30 am – 12:30 pm, Artists/Clinicians present trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and rhythm section jazz workshops ~ Student Union Building

4:00 pm, David Liebman Clinic ~ Student Union Special Events Center

4:45 pm, Boise State Jazz Ensemble w/David Liebman   performs ~ Student Union Special Events Center

7 pm, Winning School Bands perform ~ Student Union Special Events Center

8 pm, Gene Harris Festival Superband w/David Liebman performs ~ Student Union Special Events Center

Thursday, April 2nd
