Student Competition Information

Hundreds of high school students attend the Gene Harris Jazz Festival each year to learn from professional musicians and participate in adjudicated competitions. The student portion of the festival is held on Friday and Saturday. Evening concerts feature each day’s competition winners.

There are fewer than 50 performance slots available for the two days. The competition is open to junior high and high school combos and big bands.

To ensure a high quality experience for the students, we will again feature large performance halls, taped critiques from our panel of adjudicators, a clean performance tape, and a live critique following your performances.
